The Globe Theatre!

The first Globe Theater was built and opened in 1598 or 1599, using timber from Giles Allen, the owner of the land.

The exact date of the first performance is not known, though some think it was on 21 June 1599.

September 21 1599: was the first recorded performance of a play at the Globe theater; As You Like It was probably one of first the plays shown that year.

In the original Globe Theater seating was on wooden benches. You would have to pay twopence to site in the better seats. If you could not afford that you would pay one penny to site or stand in the yard.

Now too go to the Globe Theater you would have to pay 8.08 for an adult and 5.64 for a child.

The original Globe could house up to 3000 playgoers, whereas the new Globe has a limit of 1700, of which 1000 are seated in the galleries.

In 1613 The Globe burn down accidentally during a performance of Henry VIII.
The playhouse was rebuilt immediately on the original foundations. This time the roof is tiled and not thatched.

The Puritans closed all the playhouses including The Globe Theater in the year of 1642. 358 years latter they rebuilt the theater witch is in uses now.
